Top Portable Vaporizers

VAAAPP Vaporizer

If you need to vaporize your herbs while at a park, camping or somewhere power outlets aren’t available, a portable vaporizer might be for you. Fortunately many models of portable vaporizers have come on to the market within the last few years. Some models use butane fuel, a rechargeable battery, or holding a lighter to a glass tube. Lets take a look at a few of the top portable vaporizers below.

Top Battery Operated Vaporizers

Pax Vaporizer

Top spot for best battery operated vaporizer goes to Ploom’s Pax Vaporizer. Some of the highlights are, Overall quality of construction, 10 year warranty, super fast 30 second start up, efficient vaporization of herbs, long battery life with quick recharge, and small size.

NO2 Vaporizer

Vapir NO2 Vaporizer

Second Place for top portable vaporizers is the Vapir NO2. Its battery operated and will last for 5 or 6 sessions. Extra batteries are available if you need some additional vaporizing time. Its a quality vaporizer with a great LCD temperature screen.

Top Butane Operated Vaporizers

wispr vaporizer review

WISPR Vaporizer

The top butane vaporizer is the WISPR by Oglesby & Butler, which replaces the first generation Iolite. Many upgrades were given to the WISPR including:

  • Richer Vapor Delivery
  • Longer Run Time
  • Fast Warm Up Time
  • Quiet Vaporization
  • and More

This cool little guy is small, and easy to conceal. It runs on butane so its easy to refill and keep vaporizing. It produces a decent vapor considering its size and the fact it uses butane.

Iolite Vaporizer

This is the first generation portable vaporizer manufactured by Oglesby & Butler. This unit has since been upgraded by the WISPR, although it’s still a great little vaporizer and recommended if you can get one for a good price.

Top Lighter / Flame Operated Vaporizers

The Essential VAAAPP

Ok, there are some pros and cons to this portable vaporizer. Its nice and small, very inexpensive, and easy to transport. On the downside, you have to use a lighter for temperature control.

This means its really easy to burn your herb, defeating the purpose of vaporizing. Overall, its pretty cool, and I like it.

Cheap Vaporizers

Cheap Digital Vaporizer

So you want the advantages of a vaporizer, although you’re on a budget so you’re going to need something cheap. Some vaporizers run in the hundred’s of dollars, completely out of reach of many. I put together this page to show a few models which won’t break the bank.

Lets take a look at a few models:

Ubie! The Cheapest Vaporizer!

The Cheapest Vaporizer- the UBIE!

Price: $24.99

The Ubie is the cheapest vaporizer available as far as I know. Its simply a glass tube, and you put the herbs in it and hold a flame under the end of the glass tube so the hot air enters the tip and passes through the herbs. Do Not touch the flame to the glass however. Just don’t let anyone see you using this thing, it really looks like a crackpipe!

More about the UBIE

Vaporizer Pipe

Cheap Vaporizer Pipe – The Vapor Genie

Price: $49.99

The Vapor Genie is nice because it compact, portable, and a safer way to use a pipe. It pretty much works like a regular pipe, except there is a ceramic filter in between the herb and the flame. This way it gently heats up the herb till it vaporizes, reducing tar and toxic smoke. No coughing, just warm flavored air.

Dome Vaporizers

Dome Style Vaporizers

Price: $59.99-$99.00

Ah, the classic dome vaporizer. They work by removing the glass dome and placing some herb on the little metal plate. They don’t work as well as the vaporizers which force hot air “through” the herb, because the metal plate can burn the herb, and make it taste like burnt popcorn. With a little practice and patience, these cheap dome vaporizers so work! You’ll save a few bucks too.

Cheap Digital Vaporizer

Oxygen Mini – Cheapest Digital Vaporizer

Price: $99.99

The Oxygen mini vaporizer isn’t bad at all. Its pocket sized, draws hot air through the herb for vaporization, and its very well priced. There is also an optional rechargable battery system for an extra $25. A Full Oxygen Mini Review is coming soon!

HotBox

HotBox Vaporizer (The Best Cheap Vaporizer)

Price: $149.99

If $149 is within your budget, and you don’t need a portable vaporizer, grab the HotBox vape. Its great quality, uses efficient convection air method, and looks great to boot!

Health Benefits of Vaporizing Herbs

Give your poor lungs a break people!

It’s no secret that herbal smoke contains a ton of nasty hazardous toxins and carcinogens that we really shouldn’t be inhaling, such as carbon monoxide, tar and other pollutants. These toxins are widely considered to be the leading cause of cigarette related cancers. The toxins are released when burning the herb at high temperatures, 1200+ degrees!

Most herbs only contain a couple ingredients we want to inhale, which vaporize around 180-200 degrees. Vaporizing your herb is great because the vapor is 95% pure. They gently heat up your herb until the active ingredients turn into a vapor and are released, not burning the plant.

A recent study by California NORML found that vaporizers are an optimal way to use herbs, effectively reducing (or eliminating) toxins while delivering the active ingredients we want. More info on this study right here (new window opens).

Another study in 2006 by Leiden University researchers was conducted on the high-end Volcano vaporizer, finding some important information.

“Our results show that with the Volcano a safe and effective herbal delivery system seems to be available to patients. The final pulmonal uptake of active ingredients is comparable to the smoking of them, while avoiding the respiratory disadvantages of smoking.”

The results and benefits of vaporizing your herbs is clear. Trouble is, most people don’t know what a vaporizer is. Before you consider buying a vaporizer, have a look at the growing vaporizer reviews page.

What is a Vaporizer? How Does it Work?

A vaporizer works by gently heating up the herbs using a heating element, rather then burning it using a flame. When burning herbs, temperatures can reach 1200°+, so you are inhaling a bunch of stuff you don’t need to be inhaling, like the leaves of the plant and a lot of carcinogenic toxins. When vaporizing, you are only releasing the active elements you want. The herbs active chemicals will turn into a thin vapor around 180-200° C (356° – 392° F), which is 95% pure, clean and free of nasty toxic smoke. Its easy to see the health benefits isn’t it? Remember, Vapor Good, Smoke Bad.

What are the types of vaporizers available?

There are a few different types available on the market today. They will all vaporize your herbs, each using a different method. Some work better than others, and of course you will have your personal preference. Without boring you, I will try and break down how each type works. This will provide some help when it comes time to buy a vaporizer.

Vaporizer Heating Methods

Direct/Conductional Heating: The classic glass dome style vaporizer, which works by placing your herbs on a small metal plate which then heats up to a desired temperature. The reason this is called direct heating is because the herbs are placed “directly” on the heating element. This method is not as desirable, since the herb touches the heating element, it can burn and produce a gross “burnt popcorn” like taste. This method is not as efficient too, sometimes not vaporizing the herb completely. Believe it or not, this style of vaporizer has been in use since the 1970′s!

Indirect/Convectional Heating: This is the superior method for vaporizing herbals. Your herb will never directly touch the heating element, instead, direct hot air is passed over it releasing the good stuff. Since it heats evenly, you stand a much greater chance of completely vaporizing your herbs, increasing efficiency and effect!

Vapor Delivery Methods

Stored Vapor: Using this method of delivery, the vaporizer creates the vapor, then stores it in a glass dome or balloon style bag for consumption when ready. I found the glass dome types don’t provide the volume to store a “big hit”. The bag type however is able to accommodate large amounts of vapor, packing a nice punch!

Direct Lung Delivery: When you inhale this this type of vaporizer, the hot air passes through the herb, sending the vapor directly into your lungs. This method allows for much larger hits because you don’t need to store the vapor, limiting the size of the hit. The more you inhale, the more you take in (provided herb is left to vaporize). Another positive is the clean, fresh tasting vapor! Some models have a built in fan to get a higher volume of air moving into your lungs.

Welcome to VaporizerGuy.com!

It all started after using a friend’s vaporizer. I loved it! I found it a nice clean way to use my favorite herbs. Vaporizers are much easier on your lungs because you aren’t burning the plant itself, just vaporizing the active ingredients. One thing I noticed was the cleaner taste; No more harsh, hot, tar producing smoke!

Anyhow, I put together this website as a resource. I am surprised at the amount of people who don’t know what a vaporizer is. They are so much better for your health its hard to ignore them.

About the Vaporizer Guy

Hey Folks,

I was introduced to the herbal vaporizer by a friend, loved it, then started learning about them online.

I am not a cigarette smoker so I was naturally concerned about the damage smoking herbs was doing to my lungs. I read research studies that found vaporizers do actually work, providing around 95% clean vapor. Sounds good to me.

Then I finally got one for myself. I decided I didn’t need to spend much because they were all pretty much the same (yea right). It was a glass dome convection type, which had a little metal cup which heats up to produce the vapor within the glass dome, then you inhale. It was ok, but the dome couldn’t store much vapor, and it tasted bad. Anyhow, after a few models later I found my baby, the champion of vaporizers, the Volcano Vaporizer.

Then I decided to make this website to spread awareness of the health benefits of vaporizing instead of smoking. I am a website designer by profession, so I naturally thought a website was a good way to get the message out.
